The Humanities and Social Change Center (HSC Center) at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is inviting applications for fellowships for the academic year 2022/23, beginning October 1st, 2022 and ending July 31st, 2023.

The HSC Center is devoted to examining the crisis-prone relationship between capitalism and democracy. Our research focus for the upcoming academic year is “Theoretical Perspectives on Social Transformation”. We aim at an understanding of how crises drive transformation processes, the role of social actors in such processes and, last but not least, the conceptual tools such actors have at their hands for thinking radical change. Proposals that deal with new forms of solidarity, interlocking processes of social reproduction, blockades of social progress, the role of social movements, and concepts of social transformation are particularly welcome. Please note: The HSC Center Berlin will only consider proposals for funding that clearly identify their contribution to this thematic focus. We are also happy to receive applications from schol- ars who are interested in a research stay at the Center but do not need funding.

The fellowship is intended to be residential. Fellows will be expected to devote the majority of their time to their individual projects and to participate in our weekly colloquia. In addition, fellows are strongly encouraged to participate in public events hosted by the HSC Center.

The call for applications is directed at junior researchers holding a PhD as well as mid-career scholars. In addition, the Center can host projects with third party funding falling in its general scope of research and invites respective proposals.

Your application should include your academic CV, a relevant publication of article length, and a three-page project outline.

Application deadline: March 16th, 2022
