The Center for Humanities and Social Change (HSC Center) at Humboldt-University, Berlin, is inviting applications for fellowships for the academic year 2020/21, beginning October 1st, 2020 and ending July 31st, 2021.

The fellowship provides an intensive stay at the HSC Center Berlin, including active participation in the weekly internal colloquia as well as public events hosted by the HSC Center.

The call for applications is directed at junior researchers holding a PhD as well as mid-career scholars.

The HSC Center is devoted to examining the crisis-prone relationship between capitalism and democracy. The overarching theme for the Center’s third year of operation is “The Crisis of Labor”. Starting from the negative vantage point of the erosion of social solidarity, the objective is to investigate modes of domination, social pathologies, and alienation in social labor relations. These phenomena are investigated both on the conceptual and on the more applied level. Our research addresses issues pertaining to crises of work-oriented society as well as—in a positive vein—the foundations of solidarity in complex modern societies. Proposals that systematically build on the crises of labor and foundations of solidarity are particularly welcome. Proposals falling in the general scope of research at the HSC Center will also be considered.

The Center can also host some externally funded projects, which can likewise be submitted for consideration.

Your application should include your academic CV, a pertinent publication of article length, and a three-page project outline.

Application deadline: December 16, 2019
