Research

The research group Global challenges in economic and environmental ethics investigates problems arising from economic and environmental change using the methods of contemporary political philosophy and normative ethics. It has three objectives. First, to address hitherto neglected questions of global economic justice, including questions of justice in finance and monetary governance. Second, to examine central challenges that arise in environmental ethics, including the question of how to balance effectiveness and justice in dealing with climate change. Third, to systematically investigate foundational and applied issues at the intersection of economic and environmental change, including the normative assessment of various policy instruments and response strategies under conditions of non-compliance, uncertainty, and ‘fragmented agency’.
