Research on Aristotle’s Topics has focussed on its first and last books. Scholarship on the six central books remains poorly developed. These books are, however, essential for understanding Aristotle’s conception of dialectic, which is central to his conception of both philosophical and scientific method. Study of these books also promises to cast light on how Aristotle thought about teleology, definition, and logic. This workshop will bring together specialists on the Topics, allowing a systematic exploration of these poorly understood parts of Aristotle’s work.
