Mari Mikkola did her BA in Philosophy and Politics at the University of York (UK) and, in 2005, she completed a PhD in Philosophy at the University of Sheffield (UK). From October 2010 onwards, she has been the Junior Professor in Practical Philosophy at the Humboldt-University, Berlin. Prior to that, she has worked at the Universities of Sheffield, Stirling and Lancaster (UK).

Mari's main research areas are in: Feminist Philosophy (particularly working on gendered social kinds and pornography); Social Philosophy; and Metaphysics (specifically looking at social ontology and construction).

Mari has further research interests in the philosophies of Kant and Hegel.
